Position Overview

Day Pitney’s Complex Commercial Litigation group is seeking Discovery Staff Attorney to join our growing team. We will consider this role to be in any of our offices.

Ideal candidates will have hands-on litigation experience including helping a variety of clients comply with discovery obligations. We are looking for candidates who are excited about taking on more responsibility and doing challenging work, and who enjoy close team collaboration. This is a non-partnership track position and reports to the Chair of the Discovery Practice Group.

The Day Pitney eDiscovery team creates and implements practical solutions for clients from Fortune 500 companies to individual cases. The team also creates practical company-wide data preservation or litigation hold plans, consult on data retention issues and strive to keep discovery proportional and under control. The team harnesses sophisticated discovery technology with efficient and repeatable workflows and process so they that they are able to provide excellent client services at minimal cost.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Assess the discovery needs of assigned litigation matters, identify potential issues and devise a plan for cost-effective compliance that leverages the skills of the paralegal team and the firm's discovery managed services vendor;
  • Conduct data preservation interviews, draft preservation protocols, devise preservation notice distribution and tracking plans and assist with monitoring preservation compliance;
  • Oversee data collection and ensure sound transfer of data;
  • Prepare supporting materials and outlines for discovery conferences, participating when needed;
  • Draft and review written discovery including format of production specifications and appropriate objections;
  • Participate in and manage document reviews including training and supervising contract attorneys and document review teams; and
  • Coordinate document productions and the creation of privilege logs.

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated litigation discovery experience (large law firm experience preferred)
  • Strong e-Discovery software/technology skills
  • Experience managing teams of legal professional on discovery projects
  • Excellent technical, professional and client service skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Team-oriented with an emphasis on collaboration
  • Effective and efficient problem solving capabilities with the ability to work independently and proactively, and to develop creative solutions to meet client an team needs
  • NJ bar admission in good standing or willingness to become admitted (DC, and Florida bar admission a plus)
