Business Development and Marketing Coordinator - Hartford, CT; Parsippany, NJ

Job Summary:

AmLaw 200 law firm is seeking a full-time Business Development and Marketing Coordinator (BDMC) to support all of the firm's marketing and business development activities. Duties include creating pitches, proposals and marketing collateral; collaboration with Business Development team members and other firm business professionals to ensure the execution of the groups' business development plans and their alignment with firm-wide priorities; and assistance with event planning and other Marketing efforts that support firm strategy and growth. The BDMC possesses the ability to both excel within a deadline-driven service environment and communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively. He/she has strong writing and editing skills, with meticulous attention to detail and organization, as well as the ability to adjust quickly to new tasks and changing priorities.

Job Relationships:

The BDMC partners with Business Development, Marketing Technology and Marketing staff members. The BDMC interacts with Partners, Senior Associates, Associates, clients, administrative staff, Office Services and external vendors.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide business development support to the lawyers in assigned practice groups and, in the process, facilitate cross marketing, referral tracking and other business development initiatives.
  • Work with attorneys to develop materials for client presentations and pitches; support as necessary including creating PowerPoint presentations, Excel-driven charts and graphs, and other collateral and content
  • Assemble and assist in the development, drafting and tracking of pitches and RFPs
  • Attend Business Unit meetings as needed and contribute to Business Development plans and collaboration with attorneys regarding such
  • Meet with attorneys regarding Individualized Business Development (IBD) plans and assist in gathering and maintaining information as needed to execute and follow-up IBD plans
  • Contribute to and engage in Business Development training curriculum for attorneys
  • Contribute to, and assist in the implementation of a firm-wide database for representative matters and proposal content; maintain the language, matters and other content within that library
  • Draft, proofread and edit marketing and business development copy, including practice area descriptions, matter summary lists, invitations and attorney biographies
  • Assist with the collection, maintenance and execution of information and tasks for client team and Business Unit action plans and other deliverables
  • Create, propose, execute, and present on market and company research projects
  • Continued evaluation of existing business development plans and processes to ensure the firm is using the most effective and efficient work flows, tools and processes
  • Utilize the firm's research processes, resources, and tools to provide actionable business intelligence to practice areas and departments, including but not limited to company, industry or geographic research and competitive intelligence analysis
  • Assist with tasks related to event planning, execution and follow-up
  • Coordinate special projects and provide basic research and data collection
  • Provide administrative support to all Marketing and Business Development managers as needed


  • B.A./B.S. required. Major in journalism, English, public relations or similar preferred
  • Professional work experience required; professional services/law firm experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent writing, editing, and research skills
  • Demonstrated success in meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment with outstanding organizational skills reflecting an ability to prioritize tasks and manage multi-stage projects
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing, and to diplomatically seek clarity or information from those in authority if needed
  • Meticulous attention to detail, with an ability to be productive without compromising quality
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel; knowledge of CRM systems, e-mail marketing and design applications a plus
  • Desire to take on new projects and develop additional skills
