Finance Operations Assistant - Hartford, CT

Reports to Senior Finance Manager

This position requires a talented, self-starter with 2+ years of experience in a law firm setting within the Finance Department. Candidate must be detail oriented, able to work in a fast paced environment with excellent communications skills. Individual must have the ability to prioritize, coordinate deadlines, have an aptitude for technology and ability to juggle multiple responsibilities. Will work with members of the Finance Department, including but not limited to, Billing & Collections Managers and Specialists, New Matter and Conflicts team, Financial and Pricing Analysts and Finance Directors and Managers. Position reports to the Senior Finance Manager.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Understand client attributes and rates
  • Post time/disbursement data imported from various systems into the Financial system
  • Oversee electronic download and changes of personnel records into Finance system
  • Analyze client billing agreements and alternative fee arrangements (AFAs)
  • Adhere to firm billing and collection policies when opening new client
  • Cross train with other team members to assist with coverage
  • Generate monthly SSRS and financial system reports
  • Assist Conflicts Team as needed
  • Assist testing upgraded software as needed
  • Assist with Matter Maintenance and New Business Intake
  • Assist with Finance Department projects as needed


  • 2+ years of experience in legal industry with knowledge of financial software, preferably with Aderant Expert Software
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Broad based knowledge and skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, including Word and Excel
  • Electronic filing of work in a document management system or Outlook
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Prioritize rush requests and resolve quickly
  • Attention to details and work product accuracy
