Internal Reporting Analyst - Hartford, CT; New Haven, CT or Parsippany, NJ

The Internal Reporting Analyst is responsible for a wide variety of financial reporting and analysis to support the partners and other internal clients to measure profitability at a practice group, operating unit, timekeeper, client and matter level. This work also includes a variety of tasks including: reporting, analysis of KPIs, use of business intelligence software to form operational analysis, complex evaluation of expenses and vendor activities, supporting the monthly close efforts and general financial analysis.

Responsibilities:

Main duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support the firm by producing ad hoc and routine analyses of legal practices, geographic locations, types of business, etc., for purposes of determining growth and profitability. Assist practice leaders to interpret results which helps guide their view of financial results and actions they may take.
  • Participate in implementation of software to create and develop dashboard reporting and customized meaningful reports which enhance decision making.
  • Participate in the monthly close process of the financial books and assist the accounting department as needed in important efforts such as reporting to lenders, the annual budget and the annual external audit.
  • Produce and audit reports on activity and other metrics to be included in the monthly financial reports and develop presentations to inform senior management.
  • Actively contribute to the creation and improvement of standard reporting of law firm metrics and KPIs to be used by internal management for the purposes of managing their practice or function within the firm.
  • Proactively look for opportunities to optimize current reporting and develop new approaches to gain efficiency and more insight into financial results.
  • Create and streamline analyses connected with partner compensation and tax filing preparation.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in finance, accounting or related field.
  • At least five years of experience in financial reporting and analysis in a service industry. Law firm experience strongly preferred.
  • Public Accounting Firm experience of at least three years is a plus.
  • Strong technical analysis skills, including data mining experience coupled with advanced Excel capabilities.
  • Background in Aderant preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of Iridium Business Intelligence software or other CUBE-based legal services financial and reporting systems such as Redwood, Hyperion or Data Fusion.
  • Strong knowledge of all Microsoft Office products, including presentations in PowerPoint and substantial knowledge of the utilities in Excel.
  • Must have the ability to analyze financial data and prepare concise reports to assist management in understanding variances and make risk assessments.
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
