SQL Database Administrator / Application Analyst - Parsippany, NJ; Hartford, CT

Position Summary

Day Pitney, LLP is a full service law firm with 13 offices from Boston to Miami has an immediate need for an experienced Database Administrator to take ownership of all administration duties for the firm's SQL Server Database environment. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other members of the Applications and Systems Engineering teams to ensure system reliability, availability and performance.The SQL Database Administrator / Application Analyst is responsible for supporting all SQL Server Databases, including installation, upgrading, backup, maintenance, performance, availability, disaster recovery, troubleshooting, monitoring, reporting and integration. Responsibilities also include supporting, upgrading and maintaining published applications in a Citrix XenDesktop environment.

This successful candidate will have a high level of interpersonal and technical skills, must enjoy staying abreast of new technologies, possess analytical capabilities and have a passion for providing the best service to end users and coworkers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all SQL Server Administration functions including installation, upgrading, backup, maintenance, performance, availability, disaster recovery, troubleshooting, corruption checking and monitoring
  • Develop solutions as needed using SSIS, SSRS
  • Configure SolarWinds / SQL Server monitoring and alerting
  • Develop key performance metrics
  • Migrate SQL databases to new servers
  • Detect and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other areas of resource contention
  • Create server specifications for new SQL Server builds
  • Continually investigate methods to improve system reliability and performance
  • Create capacity plans, high availability solutions and upgrade strategies
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with database performance, blocking and deadlocking, replication, log shipping , connectivity, security, etc. 
  • Resolve software-related issues for firm-deployed applications
  • Prioritize identify, research and resolve technical problems
  • Test all customizations to ensure application functionality and data validity
  • Coordinate, document and manage software upgrades
  • Document application customizations in such a way that the firm is able to identify the current status of the application, its underlying infrastructure and utilize the documentation as a basis for training curriculum development
  • Troubleshoot application errors and coordinate vendor support where necessary

Qualifications:

  • At least five years progressive experience in a DBA production role
  • Experience with SQL installation on standalone and cluster servers
  • Expert knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, Clustering, Database mirroring, Replication and Always On AG.
  • Expert knowledge of SQL Reporting Services and Integration Services
  • Expert in implementing operational automation.
  • Working knowledge of cloud-based technologies such as AZURE and AWS
  • Working knowledge of Transact SQL, Stored Procedures and Views
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Proficiency with Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop, XenServer environment a plus

  • Experience with VB/VBA, scripting languages
  • Experience supporting Financial/Accounting systems
  • Law-firm or other professional-service firm experience
  • Familiarity with the following systems: Aderant Expert, CMS, Intapp, Expert Image, Interaction, Sharepoint, Metastorm, DTI, Mobility, iManage, HotDocs
