Dispatch from Turtle Bay: Short memories threaten the UN mission

Day Pitney Author(s) Robert M. Appleton

Bob Appleton authored an article, “Dispatch from Turtle Bay: Short memories threaten the UN mission,” for The FCPA Blog.  The article analyzes the United Nations reluctance to pursue an internal investigation of former General Assembly President John Ashe following his arrest on bribery and corruption charges.  Appleton draws similarities between the Organization’s response to Ashe’s arrest, and the scandal that plagued the UN under the Iraqi Oil for Food Program by Saddam Hussein and his regime.  Appleton makes the point for strong, continuous and able oversight capability, which is in the best interests of the Organization in the long run.
