Law360 published Eric Fader's article titled "HIPAA Settlement May Herald New HHS Offensive" in its January 29 issue. According to the article, Adult & Pediatric Dermatology PC recently became the first Health Information Portability and Accountability Act-covered entity to be fined for failure to have policies and procedures in place to address breach notifications in existing law. Eric writes that the settlement may signal an expansion of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' "campaign against those health care providers who, in HHS's view, may not be taking their HIPAA responsibilities seriously enough."
