More than 125 Attend Day Pitney Cyber Liability Seminar in Massachusetts

February 16, 2010

Approximately 125 participants from the Massachusetts business community made the journey to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. February 4 to find out how to better manage data privacy risk.

The event -- Cyber Liability in an Automated Business Climate From legislation to litigation ... how to manage the risk -- was sponsored by Day Pitney in conjunction with USI New England, an insurance and financial services firm, and CNA Insurance. The goal of the program was to empower participants with the tools and resources to effectively recognize and manage risk as businesses increasingly rely on their computer networks to store confidential client information.

Among the topics that were addressed were:

  • The evolution of data privacy with an historical perspective
  • Legislation and pending regulation in Massachusetts (scheduled for March 1st implementation)
  • Recent litigation
  • How to identify common network security and privacy liability risks
  • Insurance policy coverages and exclusions and the impact of related federal legislation
  • Risk and crisis management techniques

What participants had to say about the seminar:

"Solid overview. Glad that attention was paid to practical steps that can be taken without great expense."
"An awareness of what's required by our company going forward."

"What parts of the program were most helpful? All."

Speakers from Day Pitney included New Haven, CT partner Richard Harris, the head of the firm's Technology, Telecommunications, and Outsourcing practice group, and John Scordo, a litigation partner from the Florham Park, NJ office who counsels clients on issues involving data protection and privacy breach litigation. Boston litigation partner William S. Rogers, Jr. moderated the seminar.
