Day Pitney Recognizes Four Attorneys for Outstanding Pro Bono Service

Day Pitney LLP presented four attorneys with the 2012 Coleman Awards in recognition of their exemplary pro bono work in their communities.

The Coleman Awards are given by Day Pitney annually to lawyers at the firm whose commitment to pro bono work and public service exemplify the best ideals of the legal profession and the legacy of Cyril Coleman, a former Day Pitney partner who served many public institutions and causes and was known for his dignity, common sense and integrity.

This year's four Coleman Award recipients represented a range of pro bono projects.

Paul Marino, a litigation partner in Parsippany, was recognized for his role in forming a new pro bono project at the firm to provide services to young adults with developmental disabilities in guardianship proceedings.

Veronica Gonzalez, a corporate associate in Parsippany, was recognized for her work and initiative on both a merger and a bid package on behalf of deserving not for profit organizations.

Anne Trevethick, an associate in Hartford, was recognized for her work on behalf of a young mother involved in an international custody dispute under the Hague Convention. Former Day Pitney associate Matt Shiroma shared the award with Trevethick as he also worked on the case while still with the firm. Shiroma recently became a law clerk to Day Pitney former partner Michael Shea, who was appointed to the federal bench in Connecticut in December.

The Coleman Award recipients represented one part of a broader firm commitment to pro bono work. Last year, the firm donated over 9,000 pro bono hours on behalf of numerous low income individuals and a wide array of not for profit organizations and initiatives.

"We are proud of the contributions of Paul, Veronica, Anne and Matt and the rest of our colleagues who work tirelessly to help deserving people and not for profits and to continue the firm's tradition of pro bono service," said Day Pitney partner Helen Harris, chair of the firm's Pro Bono Committee.
