Partner David Newman Tells NBC Lance Armstrong Unlikely to Face Suits from Sponsors

Publisher: NBC
January 16, 2013

David Newman tells NBC News that despite Lance Armstrong's upcoming doping confession to Oprah Winfrey, he does not expect Armstrong will face lawsuits from former sponsors. The article notes that criminal charges are unlikely but that Armstrong may face a bolstered whistleblower lawsuit and have to return winnings and promotional fees. David says, however, that too much time may have passed for anyone to claim damages from Armstrong's previous denials and accusations, and that "Nike or any of these sponsors don't want to get into a lawsuit even if they're right, because long, drawn-out litigation blackens their name even more. They want to cut the ties and move on and find the good new person to sponsor -- the next Oprah Winfrey."
