New HIPAA Rules

Publisher: Crain's Health Pulse
September 30, 2013

Eric Fader was quoted September 30 in a Crain's New York Business column on new HIPAA provisions that let patients pay out-of-pocket to keep some personal medical information away from insurance companies. He highlights possible issues patients may encounter. For example, he says by not disclosing treatment to insurers, patients run the risk of withholding information from providers. He asks: "If the overall goal is to coordinate care for a specific patient, and some provider has information that another one doesn't, does that second one not make a good decision because he doesn't have all the information?"
