Missing From Debate Over John Durham’s Investigation of Trump Campaign: Why Did He Speak Out?

Publisher: Hartford Courant
March 3, 2020

Christopher F. Droney is quoted in an article, "Missing From Debate Over John Durham's Investigation of Trump Campaign: Why Did He Speak Out?," published by the Hartford Courant. The article focuses on U.S. Attorney John Durham, who has been given a special assignment by the Attorney General to investigate the origins of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. As noted in the article, Durham revealed publicly his concerns over findings in an inquiry by the Justice Department Inspector General about the integrity of the FBI's investigation of President Trump's 2016 campaign.

"Everybody who knows John knows he tries cases in court," said Droney, a former U.S. attorney who retired from the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and rejoined Day Pitney earlier this year. "The only occasions on which I can recall him making a public or press statement on a case or on an investigation was when there was some sort of misrepresentation - a misrepresentation that could hurt a defendant or hurt the government."

Doing the right thing is John's North Star," Droney continued. "He doesn't speak off the cuff or out of anger. There is a great deal of thought given to whatever he does. If he felt the need to make a statement on the inspector general's report, I'm confident there was a good reason."
