George N. Chaclas has joined Day Pitney's Boston office as a patent prosecution partner in the firm's Intellectual Property practice group. He plans to join the Providence office, upon completion of the firm's previously announced merger with Howland Evangelista Kohlenberg LLP.

"We are excited to welcome George to our firm and know that his patent prosecution experience will add additional bench strength to our existing practice and brings immense value to both our clients and colleagues," said chair of Day Pitney's Intellectual Property practice group Elizabeth A. Alquist. "It has been a long-term goal of the firm to grow our patent practice capabilities and George's addition will help us serve more clients' Intellectual Property needs."

Chaclas has more than 20 years of experience in practicing intellectual property law and provides counsel to clients, which include Fortune 100 companies, world-renowned academic institutions, industry leading companies, start-ups and individual entrepreneurs. He focuses on acquiring and using IP assets to accomplish strategic goals, such as in negotiating and drafting licenses, preparing and prosecuting patent applications, and enforcing intellectual property rights.

His diverse background has helped him marshal patent applications for many technologies through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including nanotechnology, semiconductors, business methods, bioinformatics, telecommunications, medical devices, testing equipment, fluidics, RADAR, aerospace, engines and quantum computing. Before becoming a lawyer, Chaclas worked in the semiconductor industry for over a decade as an electrical engineer.

"I'm joining the team at Day Pitney because it is a dynamic and growing firm that believes in building upon their strengths and understands how intellectual property issues affect key legal and business decisions," added Chaclas.

Chaclas earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst and his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
