Asker Saeed Receives Prestigious Diversity Award

April 21, 2015

HARTFORD, Conn., April 21, 2015 -- The Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity (LCD) has announced that it will present its 2015 Edwin Archer Randolph Diversity Award to Day Pitney Director of Diversity Asker Saeed. LCD, an organization committed to the progression of diversity in the legal profession, presents its prestigious Randolph award annually to individuals or organizations dedicated to the inclusion and advancement of lawyers of color and women lawyers within Connecticut and surrounding legal communities. Among other things, award recipients create opportunities for growth and advancement, set an example for others on how opportunities and possibilities can be created within the legal community, and work to establish a culture that values the different perspectives brought to the profession by lawyers of color and women lawyers. The award presentation will be held at the Pratt & Whitney Hangar Museum in East Hartford on May 20th.

Asker joined Day Pitney as its firm-wide Director of Diversity in September 2012 following a ten year legal and business career, most recently with United Technologies Corporation. During Asker's tenure at Day Pitney, the firm has enjoyed significant diversity-related achievements, both internally and externally. Asker has been a driving force behind the creation of a sponsorship program for attorneys of color, the formation of the Day Pitney Alliance LGBT action group, and implementation of a lateral hiring policy designed to ensure diverse candidate slates. Recently, the firm has been recognized by the Hispanic Bar Association of New Jersey and the New Jersey Law Journal for its diversity efforts and was awarded a 90% score on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index.

"Asker has been a champion of diversity and inclusion in Connecticut since 2001," said Stan Twardy, managing partner of Day Pitney. "These are core values at Day Pitney and we are thrilled that Asker is leading our diversity initiatives. The Randolph award recognizes the longstanding leadership role that Asker has played in diversifying Connecticut's legal community."

Asker is a founding member and past president of the South Asian Bar Association of Connecticut, and currently serves on the Advisory Committee of the Connecticut Hispanic Bar and as the Secretary of the Connecticut Bar Association. Asker is a frequent speaker on diversity and career development issues at local, regional, and national events.

Asker also is a long time mentor to attorneys and law students of color, both formally (through law firm, law school, minority bar association, and other diversity programs such as the LCD mentor program) and informally as a result of his attendance at diversity events and his many speaking engagements.

Asker lives in Glastonbury with his wife Raz and their teenage children Azra, Yasmeen, and Abaas.
