Throughout her career, Latif has provided legal advice in high-profile, high-stakes situations.
Prior to joining Day Pitney, Latif was an Assistant United States Attorney, both for the Eastern District of New York and the District of Connecticut. She prosecuted individuals charged with financial crimes such as wire and bank fraud, investor fraud, money laundering and embezzlement, as well as international terrorist financing and border crimes. She led multiple criminal jury trials and argued numerous appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Now, a partner at Day Pitney, Latif gets to use the skills she developed as a federal prosecutor, regularly representing companies and individuals in connection with the defense of regulatory, white-collar criminal and complex civil litigation matters.
"MassMutual has found Liz to be an outstanding attorney to work with," says Mark Roellig, Executive Vice President & General Counsel, MassMutual Financial Group. "She is incredibly responsive, helpful, creative and the results she has obtained for us have added significant value to our company and legal team. And personally, I have found her a pleasure to interact and collaborate with."
Both executives and companies have chosen Latif to defend them in a broad range of matters, including enforcement proceedings brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission and investigations and prosecutions brought by the Department of Justice into alleged violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the False Claims Act and the federal securities laws.
"She is very effective at putting people at ease in tense situations and is always prepared and gives good counsel," says a client.
Latif is on the Board of Directors of Connecticut Support Treatment and Reentry, Inc., a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to assist participants in Connecticut federal court-supervised programs serving adults on pre-trial or post-sentence release. She also serves on the Criminal Law Subcommittee of the Federal Practice Section of the Connecticut Bar Association and the Connecticut Committee of the Federal Bar Council. She is actively engaged in Day Pitney's efforts to promote diversity in the legal profession.
